Decree No. 2017-538 on Open SIRENE Data

The SIRENE register, maintained by INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies), is the official directory of French enterprises and establishments. It assigns SIREN and SIRET identification numbers and contains data on company names, legal forms, addresses, activity codes (NAF/APE), creation dates, and workforce size categories. Since January 2017, the entire SIRENE database has been available as open data.

Legal Basis

French company data is public under multiple legal frameworks. The SIRENE register has been open data since 2017 under Decree No. 2017-538. The Law for a Digital Republic (2016) mandates the publication of public sector data. Commercial register data (RCS) is also accessible through the Infogreffe portal under the French Commercial Code.
